Bridget Bites : My Jump Rope Workout

Q:

How long do you think is enough for a good jump rope workout? I have a jump rope that tracks my skips and I usually aim for 1000 per workout, is that too much or too little or just right? I don't usually track how much time I jump rope just skips

A:

Hi! That’s so cool, workout gadgets have really come a long way! What sort of rope is it?

I honestly don’t track my skips, as I use a super cheap speed rope. Or the aerospace weighted rope if I am feeling like an extra burn. The way I usually structure my jump rope workouts are as follows:

Workout One:

Five minutes easy jump to warm up

Two minutes thirty easy jump, playing with different single jump styles
(Keep my heart rate up, but not so hard I have to stop)

Thirty seconds double turns/ double cross under/ super fast running
(Basically to burn it out and get very breathless)

Thirty seconds to catch my breath

Repeat eight times

Five minutes easy jump to cool down

Workout Two:

Five minutes easy jump to warm up

Four minutes easy jump, playing with different jump styles
(Push my heart rate to just above comfortable)

One minute double turns/double cross under/ super fast running
(Make myself want to throw up its so hard, but keep pushing)

One minute to catch my breath

Repeat four times

Five minutes easy jump to cool down

It helps if you have a song with a good beat, not too fast, that you can keep time with when you are doing your slow segments! Feels like dancing (if you can’t dance like me) and stops you getting too bored.

Love,
